Work Hard, Play Hard

I just got back from Ibiza, an island off the coast of Spain known the world over for it’s – shall we say – atypically populated theme parks, and it was fucking amazing. Not because of all the reading I caught up on, or because of how hydrated I stayed literally the entire time, or even because of all that low-income affordable housing we were able to build for the surprisingly large population of homeless nuns and kittens inhabiting the island… anyone buying that? Bueller?

No, it was amazing because come Monday, I was back at my computer, pumped up and ready to hustle harder than Gary V after two Red Bulls, a beta-blocker and the freshly harvested adrenal gland of some poor Vaynerchuk Media intern who made the fatal mistake of asking to go to the bathroom for the second time in his 16 hour shift. “You shut the FUCK UP and get back to work Kyle, or I swear to Christ I’ll murder your whole goddamn family!” Gary’s all about tough love.

Anyway, I’m not out here trying to hawk outdated work/life balance bullshit like some kinda self-help Instagram sellivangelist… I avoid that garbage like attractive blondes avoid taking showers at The Bates Motel. No, all I’m saying is that for years now, I’ve realized two things… One, if you work hard, you should play hard. If you’re an up at 5am, sacrificing sweat to the gods of swoll at the Temple of Iron, getting after it until midnight everyday, going home just to do it all over again tomorrow kinda person, then you deserve a weekend your great-great-grandkids will talk about. And two, if you ever find yourself on a beach in Ibiza, juggling empty bottles of gin, the tail of your leopard costume slightly on fire and a policeman shines his light in your face and asks what the hell you’re doing out here… just tell him you’re with the band.
