Webster’s Dictionary defines Perspective as a “mental view or prospect; a point of view; what Willis was talking about”. It’s as much the way we see the world, as it is the way everyone else does.
We all tell ourselves that we typically try to see things from other people’s perspectives. This is usually true when the world around us is going hunky fucking dory. But when hunky turns to total and dory turns to shit, perspectives can change faster than a meth’d out Nascar pit-crew.
Getting cut off by someone who’s late for work can change dear sweet old grandma from the person who has never sworn in her life and never missed Sunday mass, into a jacked-up combo of coked-out Sam Kinison and drunk as balls Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey. Alternatively, maybe you’re late for something – your kids ballet recital, double bypass heart surgery, whatever – you’re standing in line at the grocery store, thinking it would be a quick in-and-out for that delicious sugar free Red Bull when you see Karen pull up in front of you… She’s pushing a cart filled to brim and opening up a monogrammed tote-bag of coupons so big and filled with misery it would make Pandora herself switch registers. You wanna keep your chill but as this dye-job drops her 35th coop on the counter to save another 15 cents on an already discounted bargain bin Kenny Chesney CD, you realize you’ve been standing there like a putz for half an hour and that usual “live and let live” personal mantra you love so much quickly rewrites itself into something that more closely resembles an ICP song and your typically hella woke frame of mind starts wondering to itself “you know what man, if I 187 this broad right here, at least someday some white lady will talk about me on her murder podcast.”
Anyway, I think the moral here is something about keeping other people’s perspectives in mind r whatever… And if you can’t do that, then I guess there’s always twitter.
